Hey, No-Zempies! I have a big announcement for this week’s No-Zempic Monday post: I have decided to go off of Ozempic. I’ll talk more about that in a minute, but if you’re new, maybe you haven’t heard my Ozempic story. Check it out so you know where I’m coming from—I don’t villainize anyone choosing Ozempic or other GLP-1s because I know exactly what it’s like to feel pressured into taking them. That’s the whole reason I started No-Zempic Mondays! There’s a lot of vocal support for people choosing GLP-1s for weight loss, but there is less for people who choose them for diabetes care, or those who don’t want to go on the drugs for weight loss, even though it seems the whole world is doing it.
There is a better way forward. Fat liberation gives us the framework—body autonomy and the reality that we owe thinness to no one—but the decision is ultimately up to each person.
Here is why I’ve decided that Ozempic is no longer the right choice for me and my body:
