In her Revelations of Divine Love, mystic Julian of Norwich (c. 1343-c.1416) writes, “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.”
It can be hard to hear these words from long ago—surely Lady Julian didn’t consider a Trump presidency when she uttered those lines? It’s not that I’m taking her words as a platitude, just grin and bear it for the next four years and hope for the best. That would serve no one, especially not the most vulnerable in society like immigrants, women, children, trans people—the list goes on.
In a weird pivot, I want to talk about Judas Iscariot—you know, the guy who betrayed Jesus to the authorities, leading to his death—and how Lady Julian’s words connect to his dilemma.
